In 2003, Male Talent 20 excited our ears with one of the most popular voices in Australia when he appeared on the hit television series ‘Australian Idol’. Since his time on this much loved TV show, he has made a great impact in the commercial radio industry, working for highly successful rating stations across many fields from Announcing, Promotions and Creative.
Male 20 is a loveable character and has a very distinctive voice which is perfect if you want your commercial to stand out from the crowd!
We caught up with him and asked a few questions about his voiceover career -
How did you become a voice talent?
As a singer, I was doing a lot of jingles to start off with. I then honed my spoken-voice whilst working in the radio industry.
How long have you been a voice talent?
15 years
Do you remember the first voiceover you ever got paid to do?
It was for a Juice bar that used to be at Nobby Beach on the Gold Coast. I can't remember what it was called, but I remember thinking "what the hell is a wheat-grass shot". I'm still not sure.
What’s the best voiceover you have ever done?
I particularly enjoy voicing in the "strong Aussie bloke" style. I guess it's my forte...being such a strong Aussie bloke myself. Just sayin'.
What’s the worst voiceover you have ever done?
A screechy old lady, who clearly wasn't a lady. It hurt my throat. And possibly hurt the ears of the listeners too.
Do you have a favourite commercial on TV at the moment?
I like the "BCF'n fun" campaign by BCF - it's really clever and gets stuck in your head.
If you could voice the part for a cartoon character who would you like to be?
Probably an all-Aussie crime-fighting cattle dog called Darren. He's mans best friend...but a crim's worst enemy.
